You know often in our lives we feel crappy. We feel blah. We feel unhappy and we can’t really pinpoint why. We’re not sure what’s going on. We just know that we’re not feeling happy in our lives. One of the ways we can really try and figure out what is that’s happening is to look at our lives in a more holistic way – looking at our lives in all of the different areas of our lives.
One way to do this is to use the seven arenas of your life and to rate them. Today, that’s what we’re going to focus on. We’re going to look at the seven arenas of your life and then you’re going to rate them on a scale of 1 to 10. One being, “This part of my life is awful. There’s nothing good happening in it.” Ten being, “This part of my life is absolutely amazing. There’s not any room for improvement. It’s just wonderful.” OK, so the seven arenas, and I want you to rate them 1 to 10, one being not good, ten being absolutely amazing.
The seven arenas are health, friends, love, finances, hobbies, mission and spirituality. When you look at those seven areas of your life, how are they rating for you? What areas are really doing great and what areas are you lacking in? Because when we’re feeling unhappy in our lives and when we’re feeling crappy and things aren’t going well, it’s a search for an improvement in one of these areas.
What you can do is on a weekly basis you can rate these areas and you can evaluate where you are at in these areas. You can ask yourself, “Where am I this area? Where am I rating myself?” In health, “Where am I rating myself. You can ask yourself, “Is this where I want to be? Do I want to be a 5 or do I want to be a 10?” If we’re talking about health, “Am I eating regularly enough? Am I eating nutritiously enough?” I’m stumbling over that word. “Am I exercising enough? What is it in that health sector that is giving me that rating?” Ask yourself, where am I rated. Then ask yourself, why am I rated there. Then also ask yourself, is this where I want to be rated, in that sector of my life in that arena of my life. Finally, ask yourself how do I get to where I want to be. Where do I want to be in this area, and how to I get there?
On a weekly basis if you’re asking yourself this in all these seven areas, you’re looking at your health. You’re looking at your friends. You’re looking at love. You’re looking at mission. You’re looking at spirituality. You’re looing at hobbies. If you’re rating those on a consistent basis and you’re really paying attention to where am I showing up on the scale here, where do I want to be and how do I get there, you’ll be able to pinpoint what areas of your life are not congruent with where you want to be. That will help you understand why maybe you’re not feeling as good as you could be feeling in your life.
I challenge you to do this on a regular basis. Start today. Rate those seven areas of your life. Then on a weekly basis, go back to them and rate them again. Then really, proactively change how it is that you’re showing up in those areas of your life. You’ll see a change in your life. You’ll begin to be able to feel, “Oh well this is why I’m not feeling good today. I haven’t been seeing my friends.” Or, “This is why I’m not feeling great today, or in my life right now. I’m not rating myself high in my mission in my life.”
Okay? So please, take some time it’s a wonderful very, very great exercise that’s going to give you great results.
